Phosphate Crystal Feeders
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do phosphate crystal feeders work?
A. The cartridge contains non-toxic hexametaphosphate crystals that dissolve slowly in water to inhibit scale and rust build-up. The phosphate binds with hardness minerals in water to form a protective coating inside the pipe.
Q. What are the advantages or benefits of phosphate feeders?
A. Protects your water heater and piping from hard water and scale build-up.
Helps slow down corrosion and stop copper pipe from being corroded.
Q. What does the phosphate feeder come with?
A. These filters come with one F1009700 Poly Guard Phosphate Crystal Cartridge 10" phosphate cartridge.
Q. Will these phosphate filters cause pressure drop or slow down my water flow??
A. No. The cartridge is a by-pass feeder meaning that some of the water flows around the cartridge so as not to slow down flow or reduce pressure.
Q. What types do you have?
A. We have one cartridge that comes in either a plastic housing, or a stainless steel housing. The plastic housing is a Pentek #10 housing with 3⁄4 inch inlet and outlet and comes with a mounting bracket screws and a filter wrench.
The stainless steel housing is NSF certified 1" in-out housing and comes with mounting bracket and wrench for changing.
Q. How often will I need to change the phosphate crystal cartridge??
A. About once per year. You can visually see the crystals when you unscrew the filter housing. If the crystals get down to less than 1/3rd full we recommend changing cartridge.
