Questions

What size should I order for oxidizing iron, odors or for mixing?

For most residential applications where you are injecting chlorine, air, ozone or other chemicals before your filtration system, the 15 or 30 Gallon Contact Tanks work good. These are the most common sizes when the water is flowing at up to 15 gallons per minute, which is common for most home water wells. A contact time of 1 -2 minutes works great when you are looking to destroy odors or oxidize iron or manganese before a filter system.

I have 3/4" piping, is there a 3/4" size?

The 1" size can easily be adapted down to 3/4" with common pipe reducer fittings available at hardware stores.

What size should I get if I wish to disinfect water?

This will depend on the pH and the concentration of the chlorine, ozone or peroxide you are injecting, but generally you would want about 10 minutes of contact time. Contact us for more information and assistance in sizing if you are using these contact tanks for disinfection.

Are these tanks Certified?

Yes.

How important is a drain option?  Do I really need a drain?

No you don't need a drain.  A drain option is good for if you need to winterize the tank for freezing, or if your water contains a lot of iron sludge or sand and want to drain it periodically.  Otherwise you can easily unscrew the top and just dump out and flush the tank once a year and not need a drain.

Why would I need the optional pressure relief valve?

These tanks can take high pressure up to 125 PSI and will last for many years. However they cannot take much of a vacuum without damage.  Imagine a straw, and try to suck through the straw and hold your finger over the end of the straw (the straw will collapse instantly).   If the check valve in your well fails and water rushes back down the well, water will empty out of the contact tank and a vacuum will be pulled on the tank, and can partially collapse it.  When the water comes back on, the tank will leak.

This is not covered by the 10 year warranty.   Vacuum related damage is rare, but a good insurance against it is our lead-free Vacuum Relief valve, highly reocmmended.
