How to Remove Red Clips from Fleck 7000 Control Valves Without Breaking Them

Important Note: The Fleck 7000 is no longer being manufactured. While the information in this post still applies, we now offer an updated option: the Iron Filter 7500, which features advanced controls and performance. Check it out here.

The Fleck 7000 is a great programmable control valve that lasts many years. While it is easy to install and program, reading this guide before installation can save you time when removing the red clips.

What happens is that when the water is first turned on and the control valve reaches line pressure, the bypass valve and pipe connectors push out or apart slightly and lock in place with the red clips.

When the water is turned off, and even if there is no water pressure, it’s impossible to remove the jammed-in clips without great difficulty, and eventually, most customers end up breaking them to get them out.

Step 1: After depressurizing the Fleck 7000, gently push the bypass and pipe connectors against the body of the control valve, and the clips will instantly release.

Step 2: At that point they can practically be removed with your fingertips, although a small flat head screw driver or needle nose pliers works best to pull out the red clips.
