Salt Free Whole House Conditioner & Carbon Filtration System for Great Water Throughout the House
Frequently Asked Questions:
I have hard water. How much hardness does this system remove?
The Scale Stopper does not remove hardness from water. It changes the structure of the calcium so no scale forms in your pipes. You will still see white deposits on glass doors and fixtures when the water evaporates. If you have very hard water (over 12 grains per gallon) and you currently have a water softener and want the same soft water effects, we recommend you do not purchase a no-salt conditioner. NOTE: this does not matter what the make or brand is or what claims are made.
It does do a fantastic job of keeping your pipes and appliances free of interior scale build-up.
What is the difference between the Filter Cartridge Options?
The cartridge type is the difference between the whole house 10" and 20" compared to the 10" and 20" big blues. The whole house carbon filter cartridge (10" or 20" option) comes with a refillable canister where you can easily unscrew the cartridge and empty and refill with activated carbon. Or you can just change it with a new cartridge, typically every 6 to 12 months.
Each option comes with one cartridge.
The big blue styles come with a 50/5 carbon block cartridge which is self contained carbon and when it has run the course of its life span (6 months to 1 year) you would throw it away and purchase another carbon filter cartridge.
If you are on well water or otherwise have non-chlorinated water, you don't need the carbon filter. In that case, you can opt for a 10" Big Blue 50/5 dual grade micron whole house sediment filter, or a 20" Big Blue 50/5 dual grade filter.
If your water is relatively free of sediment, then opt for no pre-filter.
Why would I want the Whole House Carbon Upflow instead of the Carbon Filter Cartridge option?
If you are on city water, a whole house carbon pre-filter cartridge works fine, but you do have to change the cartridge regularly, often twice a year.
The better option for many families is the Whole House Upflow Carbon. In place of cartridges, you have a tank of carbon which typically lasts for several years.
No cartridges to change, just unscrew top and dump out carbon and replace with granular carbon, which is much cheaper than carbon cartridges.
Enjoy clean chlorine-free water throughout your home!
Good flow and no loss of pressure. Includes nice bypass valve and 1" in-out connectors. Easily adapt to 3/4" if you have 3/4" piping.
Do I ever have to change the Scale Stop Media?
Yes. While some companies claim that Template Assisted Crystallization Filter Media (TAC) lasts for a lifetime, this is not true. It is recommended it be replaced every 4 to 6 years.
How do I know when to change the Scale Stop Media?
There is no water test you can do to tell if the media needs changing. Most customers notice some decrease in effectiveness after 4 or 5 years and then change it at that point.
